ShakerRacer project with N95

Andreas Jakl and Stephan Selinger have launched a new application called ShakerRacer that utilizes the 3D Acceleration Sensor of a Nokia S60 3rd Edition mobile device such as Nokia 5500 Sport, N93i, N95 or N82 to control and drive a real world Radio Control (RC) toy car using your hand/body movements.

The RC car used was modded to accept a Bluetooth connection instead of the proprietary wireless module which an RC car came with and they also add in a microcontroller.

OS X (Tiger) Tips

This video makes the assumption that you are on an Intel mac running Tiger (as most new Mac users are). If you have any thing to add or a tutorial of your own, post it as a video response. Another thing I didn't mention: If you're on a MacBook go to the 'mouse and keyboard' menu, then on the gestures menu check all of the boxes and hover over them to see how to use them, then once they're all enabled, make good use of them!

Panasonic's interactive TV wall

Just like all other international companies, Panasonic thinks about our future on a daily basis and they try to come up today with tomorrow's tools. It's clear to everybody that the TV, IT and Internet have a key place in our everyday lives today.

Panasonic based themselves on this statement to develop an interactive TV wall. Yes, we are talking about a wall... with a touch sensitive screen that has the surface of two 110" TV's (you just need a big house or share the TV with your neighbour).

This wall not only enables you to watch TV, but also to surf on the Internet, read emails, listen to music and even see who's ringing your doorbell. Since it's a touch sensitive screen, it gives you the interactivity to play some basketball or even practice your piano skills on the screens, as shown on the video.

Capture videos from the Internet

If you're a regular YouTube viewer, you've probably experienced the frustration of trying to save your favorite videos. The movies are presented in the Flash Video (FLV) format and can't be downloaded with a simple right-click. Flash Video makes highly-compressed streaming video possible, and many Web sites use it because it displays well in most browsers.

One of the easiest ways to capture videos is with KeepVid a download-helper site. It's completely browser-based, so there's no software to download. After you've found a video you want to save, enter that video's URL at KeepVid, then select its originating site from a pop-up list. KeepVid works with a wide variety of video sites. You can reuse its sites list to discover new places to surf for videos.

When you enter your video URLs, KeepVid prompts you to change the suffix of the downloaded file (so that instead of Video.htm, you download Video.flv). The only problem with the site is it leaves FLV files in their original format, so downloading alone isn't enough. To view your file, you'll need to either download a FLV viewer such as FLV Player, or convert your file into a more usable format.

Another good site for saving online video is YouTube Downloader, a simpler option that only works with YouTube. In this site, you enter the URL of the page with your chosen video and click "Get Download URL." You'll then create a URL for the video itself. Click that new link to download the video file. You shouldn't need to add a FLV suffix, but it's a possible fix if you have problems. Again, you'll either need to convert this file or download a FLV viewer to play it.
